in hybrid moments give me a moment

this weekend was super busy! on friday my band played a house show that was super fun and then on saturday we went to the farm that we get our csa from.

jeremy said this is the 'yep, it's a farm' picture. anyway we visited eatwell farm for their annual garlic harvesting and solstice party. they're located in dixon, ca which is about a half hour outside sacramento. i've been a member of their farmshare for a little over two years and i had never seen the farm before. we also decided we were overdue for a camping trip and this one was free (big basin was $44!). also, garlic.

we went on a walk on the farm, pulled a bunch of garlic out of the ground, and the owner of eatwell, nigel walker, showed us how to braid garlic. jeremy is totally better at braiding garlic than i am.

after braiding, we all ate dinner. everyone was instructed to bring a side dish (i brought a vegan lasagna). dinner was pretty good but there were some grilling problems or something and jeremy had to wait for a while for his burger. eatwell farm also provided these really great sodas that are really good. miri loved them. especially the strawberry one.

it seemed like most of the people there were from elsewhere in the bay area (more so than from the sacto/davis area) and there were quite a few hybrids and berkeley or sf parking stickers on the cars in the field. we spent a lot of time out there in the field, chasing miri around. everyone was definitely nice but the earnestness of a couple people was a lot to take. like people referring to themselves as urban foodies and shit. berkeley. anyway i know i might come off as that to other people too so whatever. we spent a lot of time in our tent or out in the field is what i'm saying. i'm pretty sure we went to sleep last.

sunday morning we woke up entirely too early, and i think last, and ate the best tortillas and eggs ever. the coffee wasn't bad either.

and that was pretty much it! we drove back to the bay area, picked up ethel in san francisco (no dogs were allowed, sadly. we missed her terribly but she had a vacation with a great dogsitter friend of ours), and came home and grilled more pizzas/read the ny times. soo bay area.

no princess parties

so jeremy and i are getting married, hopefully towards the end of this summer or early this fall.

i never thought i was going to get married. but right now, everything has fallen into place in ways that i couldn't forsee. a good example of how terrible i am at this stuff is that when jeremy insisted that he buy me a ring, i made sure it was a cheap band with no stones from the flea market we go to. and then i lost it like two days later. i'm a jerk :(

i don't want a huge thing. i don't want to wear white. i don't want it to cost tons of money that we don't have.

i do want: to be outdoors. in nature. any flowers are to actually be flowering and not purchased from a florist. i want it to be relaxed with friends playing music and officiating and generally hanging out like they would at any picnic. kids playing. dogs. that sort of stuff. thankfully, it turns out jeremy doesn't care about big fancy weddings either! phew.

this is from when we went camping right before i had my surgery so we could get our minds off of it. i want our wedding to feel like we did on that weekend. we drove down to santa cruz and camped at big basin, and then slowly meandered up the 1 back to the bay, stopping at greyhound rock and pescadero and anywhere else we felt like. i had done the drive a million times before but never with jeremy and miri. i thought that the entire time i'd be trying to point out and show things to them that i already knew about and i ended up being amazed at how much stuff i had never seen that we could experience together for the first time.

we're going camping for the first time since then at eatwell farm this weekend for a garlic harvesting summer solstice thing. i've been a member of the csa for over two years now and i've never made it to the farm. here's to more experiences with my family.

first grilled pizza attempt

so the other day we grilled some pizzas.

it's been hot out so we've been trying to figure out ways to eat without using the stove. we did end up using the stove since we had to make sauce, but at least we didn't have to crank up the oven as high as it goes which is what we usually do when we make pizza.

dough is made in the food processor using yeast/sugar/flour/salt/water/olive oil. sauce is a large can of crushed tomatoes/garlic/spices/red wine. you grill one side of the dough for two minutes and take off the grill to put on the toppings.

then you slide it back on the grill, and bake with the lid on for 8-10 more minutes.

we are in our backyard/parking lot and conveniently, some tenant probably years ago left this camper shell for us to use as a work station when we are grilling. the bbq itself is actually on a dirt patch about 20 feet away from the 580.

here is pizza #2 as it's coming of the grill. toppings for the pizza are arugula (from eatwell farm), bell peppers and crimini mushrooms. and uh, mozzarella cheese.

miri is totally into pizza.

i did take this adorable picture of miri and jeremy while the pizzas were cooking or the grill was getting hot or something like that. i love them both so much.
